White currant 'Blanka' (Ribes rubrum 'Blanka')

'Blanka' is a late variety of white currant, valued for its high fertility, high resistance to diseases and tasty, sweet and sour fruit. It is ideal for both amateur cultivation in gardens and on commercial plantations.

Variety characteristics:

• Habit of the shrub: Moderately vigorous, spreading, growing up to about 1.5 m in height.
• Leaves: Green, lobed, typical of currants.
• Flowering: April-May, small, inconspicuous, melliferous flowers.
• Fruiting: Late – harvest falls on July and August.
• Fruit: Light cream, large, gathered in long clusters. They have a delicate, sweet and sour taste and are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants.
• Frost resistance: Very high, tolerates winters well in Poland.
• Disease resistance: High, especially to anthracnose and leaf drop.

Cultivation requirements:

• Position: Sunny or semi-shaded.
• Soil: Fertile, moderately moist, slightly acidic to neutral (pH 6.0-7.0).
• Planting: Preferably in autumn (October-November) or early spring (March-April).
• Watering: Regular during periods of drought, especially during fruit ripening.
• Pruning: In the first years, it was limited to removing weak shoots, then regular overexposure of the shrub every 2-3 years.

Use:

• Raw consumption – ideal for desserts and fruit salads.
• Preserves – jams, juices, tinctures.
• Freezing – the fruit retains its taste and nutritional value.
