Gaura

Lindheimer's gaura (Gaura lindheimeri), also known as gaura, is a perennial ornamental plant native to North America. Valued for its light, airy habit and long-lasting and abundant flowering, it is an attractive element of many garden compositions.

Characteristics:

• Flowers: Small, four-petaled, reminiscent of butterflies, in colors ranging from white through pink to delicate pink. Flowering lasts from late spring until the first frost, providing a long period of decorativeness.

• List: Narrow, lanceolate, green or with a reddish tint, forming a dense clump at the base of the plant.

• Cut: Erect, branched shoots reaching a height of 60 cm to 1.2 m, giving the plant lightness and delicacy.

Cultivation requirements:

• Position: Solar; Gaura grows and blooms best in full sun.

• Soil: Permeable, moderately fertile, with a neutral or slightly acidic pH. The plant tolerates poor soils, provided good drainage.

• Humidity: Moderate; Gaura is resistant to periodic droughts, but young plants require regular watering until rooted.

• Frost resistance: In Polish climatic conditions, gaura may need to be covered for the winter, especially in regions with a harsh climate.

Care:

• Watering: Regular in the initial period of growth; After rooting, the plant tolerates short-term droughts well.

• Fertilization: Small doses of compound fertilizers in spring promote healthy growth and abundant flowering.

• Trimming: Removing faded inflorescences stimulates further flowering. In spring, it is worth pruning the shoots low to the ground to stimulate the plant to lush growth.

Garden Use:

Gaura is perfect for naturalistic gardens, prairies, perennial beds and compositions with ornamental grasses. Its delicate flowers bring lightness and movement, and its long flowering period provides attractiveness for most of the season. It can also be grown in containers on terraces and balconies, adding a subtle charm to them.
