Hairgrass – a delicate ornamental perennial grass

The most important features of hairgrass

• List: Thin, thread-like leaves of dark green color, forming a compact, subtle clump. The upright habit adds elegance to the plant.
• Flowers: Loose, paniculate inflorescences with a golden or silvery hue. They appear from June to August and remain decorative until autumn, swaying slightly in the wind.
• Height: The grass reaches 30–60 cm in height, and up to 80 cm during flowering, when the inflorescences rise above the leaves.

Requirements of Hairgrass

• Position: It prefers sunny or semi-shaded places. It naturally grows on poor, sandy soils.
• Substrate: It grows best in dry to moderately moist, well-drained soils with an acidic or slightly acidic pH. It also tolerates poor soils.
• Care:
  • Trimming: In spring, remove old leaves and inflorescences to encourage the growth of new shoots.
  • Fertilization: Minimal fertilization when the plant grows in very poor soil.
  • Drought resistance: It copes perfectly with periodic water shortages.
