Paprika

Pepper (Capsicum annuum) is an annual plant from the nightshade family, valued for its juicy and aromatic fruits, rich in vitamins C, A and antioxidants. Regular consumption of peppers supports the immune system, improves circulation and has a beneficial effect on skin health.

Cultivation requirements:

• Position: Peppers prefer sunny, warm and wind-sheltered positions. The optimal growth temperature is 20-30°C.

• Soil: It grows best on fertile, humus-rich soils with a neutral to slightly acidic pH (pH 6.0-7.0). The soil should be well-drained and moderately moist.

Sowing and care:

• Sowing: Pepper seeds are sown indoors in February or March, and seedlings are planted in the ground in the second half of May, when the risk of frost has passed. It is recommended to grow from seedlings due to the long growing season.

• Irrigation: Peppers require regular watering, especially during flowering and fruit set. Excessive hydration, which promotes the development of fungal diseases, should be avoided.

• Fertilization: Before sowing, it is worth enriching the soil with compost or well-decomposed manure. During vegetation, mineral fertilizers with a predominance of phosphorus and potassium can be used, avoiding excess nitrogen, which promotes lush leaf growth at the expense of yield.

Pepper varieties recommended for cultivation:

• Aminata: A red block-type variety with large, juicy fruits, resistant to diseases, recommended for cultivation in the ground and under cover.

• Kasia: A yellow block-type variety with sweet, fleshy fruits, tolerating Polish climatic conditions well.

• Orelia: An orange block-type variety, with an intense taste and aroma, ideal for salads and preserves.

Harvesting and storage:

Peppers are harvested successively when the fruits reach their full size and color, usually from July to September. Fresh fruit can be stored in the refrigerator for about a week. Peppers are also suitable for freezing, drying and preparing preserves, which allows you to enjoy their taste all year round.
