Leek
Number of products : 3Leek is a vegetable with a delicate taste, which is an excellent addition to soups, salads and main courses. We offer seeds of various varieties of leek, ideal for cultivation in Polish climatic conditions.
The leek (Allium porrum) is a biennial plant in the Amaryllidaceae family, cultivated primarily for its elongated, white stem called the pseudostem. It is rich in vitamins A, C, K and minerals such as iron and manganese. Regular consumption of leek supports the immune, digestive and circulatory systems.
Cultivation requirements:
-
Position: The leek prefers sunny positions, but also tolerates light partial shade. The optimal growth temperature is 15-20°C.
-
Soil: It grows best on fertile, humus soils, with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH (pH 6.5-7.5). The soil should be moist, but not waterlogged.
Sowing and care:
-
Sowing: Leek seeds are sown in March under cover. Seedlings are planted in the ground in May at a spacing of 30-50 cm between rows and 15-20 cm in a row, depending on the growth strength of the variety.
-
Irrigation: The leek requires regular watering, especially during the period of intensive growth. Dry soil should be avoided, which can lead to stunted growth.
-
Fertilization: Before sowing, it is worth enriching the soil with compost. During the growing season, organic or mineral fertilizers can be used, avoiding excess nitrogen, which favors lush leaf growth at the expense of the stem.
