Bouquet hydrangea 'Petite Star' PBR (Hydrangea paniculata) – compact beauty

The bouquet hydrangea 'Petite Star' PBR is a lovely, compact variety ideal for smaller gardens, terraces and balconies. Its decorative, conical inflorescences delight with their subtle color, and the small size of the shrub makes it easy to grow and perfect for a variety of garden compositions.

Characteristics

  • Habit and Size:
A compact, spherical shrub that grows to a height of 60–80 cm and a similar width. It is ideal for small spaces.

  • Flowers:
Conical inflorescences, composed of small sterile flowers, initially white, with time slightly pinking. Flowering begins in July and lasts until September.

  • List:
Green, oval, with slightly serrated edges, which are an attractive background for flowers.

Growing conditions

  • Position:
It prefers sunny or semi-shaded positions. In sunny places, it blooms more profusely, but the soil should be constantly moist.

  • Soil:
Fertile, humus, permeable, moderately moist, slightly acidic to neutral pH.

  • Watering:
It requires regular watering, especially during periods of drought and during flowering.

  • Frost resistance:
Frost-resistant (zone 5–9), it tolerates Polish winters well.

Care

  • Trimming:
Bouquet hydrangea blooms on annual shoots, so in early spring (March–April) it should be pruned low, leaving 2–3 buds on each shoot. This stimulates the formation of new, profusely flowering shoots.

  • Fertilization:
During the growing season, it is worth using fertilizers dedicated to hydrangeas or fertilizers for flowering plants. It is recommended to fertilize every 2–3 weeks.

  • Mulching:
Bark or compost mulch helps keep the soil moist and reduces weed growth.

Use in the Garden

  1. Small Gardens:
Ideal for small spaces thanks to its compact size.

  2. Flower beds:
It looks beautiful in compositions with other perennials and low shrubs.

  3. Pots and Containers:
It is perfect for growing in large pots on balconies and terraces.

  4. Color compositions:
It goes well with plants with contrasting leaves, e.g. ornamental grasses or perennials with silvery leaves.

  5. Naturalistic and Modern Gardens:
It fits both casual and formal gardens.
