Knotweed 'Superba' – A Unique Ground Cover
Knotweed 'Superba' (Persicaria affinis 'Superba') is a unique variety of knotweed, valued for its abundant flowering, low requirements and ability to quickly turf large areas. With its intense pink flowers, which gradually brighten, it creates a beautiful tonal effect. It is an excellent choice as a ground cover in naturalistic gardens, rock gardens and perennial beds.
Main characteristics of knotweed 'Superba'
Flowers
- Colour: Dark pink flowers at the beginning of flowering, which fade over time to light pink and white shades, creating interesting contrasts.
- Shape: Cylindrical, dense inflorescences, 5–10 cm long.
- Flowering: From June to October, providing color and ornamentation for a long period.

Cultivation requirements of knotweed 'Superba'

- Position: It grows best in sunny or semi-shaded positions. It blooms more intensively in the sun, and in partial shade it retains the freshness of its leaves throughout the season.
- Soil: Fertile, well-drained, moderately moist, with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. It also does well in average garden soils.
Watering and fertilizing
- Watering: Regular, especially during drought. The plant prefers soils that are constantly slightly moist.
- Fertilization: In spring, it is worth using an organic or compound fertilizer to support healthy growth and flowering.
Care
- Trimming: After flowering, you can trim faded inflorescences to maintain an aesthetic appearance and possibly prolong flowering.
- Propagation: It easily reproduces by clump division in early spring or fall.
- Wintering: It is fully frost resistant (zone 4–8) and does not require additional protection.
