Brunnera (Brunnera macrophylla) is a perennial ornamental plant, valued for its decorative leaves and delicate flowers. It comes from the Caucasus regions, which makes it a resistant plant and easy to grow in Polish climatic conditions.

Characteristics:

  • List: Large, heart-shaped, with distinct innervation. Many varieties have leaves with striking silvery or cream marbling, which adds to their attractiveness throughout the growing season.

  • Flowers: Small, blue, flower-like forget-me-nots, gathered in loose inflorescences. They appear in spring, from April to May, creating a delicate mist over the leaves.

  • Cut: It forms compact clumps of 30-50 cm high and similar in width.

Cultivation requirements:

  • Position: Prefers semi-shaded to shady places; It grows perfectly under the crowns of trees or in the shade of buildings.

  • Soil: Fertile, humus, moist, but well-drained. It does not tolerate drought or water stagnation.

  • Frost resistance: Fully frost resistant; does not require covering for the winter.

Care:

  • Watering: Regular, especially during periods of drought, to keep the soil moist constantly.

  • Fertilization: In spring, it is worth feeding with compost or compound fertilizer for ornamental plants.

  • Trimming: After flowering, you can remove faded inflorescences to improve the appearance of the plant.

Garden Use:

Brunnera is irreplaceable in shady beds, forest gardens or as a ground cover under trees and shrubs. Its decorative leaves provide an excellent background for other shade-loving plants, such as hostas or ferns. It can also be grown in containers on shady balconies and terraces.
