Radish (Raphanus sativus) is an annual plant from the brassica family, cultivated for edible root thickenings. It is rich in vitamins C, B6 and minerals such as potassium, calcium and magnesium. Regular consumption of radishes supports digestion, has a detoxifying effect and strengthens the body's immunity.

Cultivation requirements:

  • Position: Radish prefers sunny or slightly shaded positions. The optimal growth temperature is 12-18°C.

  • Soil: It grows best on light, humus soils, with a neutral to slightly acidic pH (pH 6.0-7.0). The soil should be moist, but not waterlogged.

Sowing and care:

  • Sowing: Radish seeds are sown directly into the ground from early spring to late summer, every 2-3 weeks to ensure the continuity of the harvest. Row spacing 10-20 cm, and in a row every 3-5 cm. Avoid fresh manure, which can cause pressure on the thickening.

  • Irrigation: Radish requires regular watering, especially during the period of germination and thickening. Avoid overdrying of the soil, which can lead to woodiness and cracking of the thickening.

  • Fertilization: Before sowing, it is worth enriching the soil with compost. During vegetation, intensive nitrogen fertilization is not recommended to avoid excessive leaf growth at the expense of thickening.
